Statue of Liberty Dauphin Pennsylvania

Miniature Statue of Liberty of Pennsylvania

Lesser Known Adventures on YouTube

Why is there a Statue of Liberty in Dauphin Pennsylvania on the Susquehanna River outside of Harrisburg, PA.

In 1986, a Statue of Liberty replica appeared in the middle of the Susquehanna River, off Route 322 just outside of Dauphin Pennsylvania.

For years it sat, 18 feet tall, made of venetian blinds and plywood, a mystery with no explanation as to how it got there or why.

In the early ’90s, the original statue was destroyed by the weather. But by then it had become such a famous landmark that the local residents raised twenty-five thousand dollars to build a new, sturdier, and larger replica, standing now at twenty-five feet tall.

The statue remained a mystery, until years later when local lawyer Gene Stilp came forward, revealing himself and a few friends who built and erected the original statue in the middle of one night in 86.

You can still see the miniature Statue of Liberty today, in the middle of the Susquehanna River, as you drive through Dauphin Pennsylvania.
